Okay, we are now living in Arizona.  How did it happen?  Why did we move?  What is it like?  I will try to answer these types of questions on this page.

In January and March of 2001 Koleen and I took trips to Arizona to check it out.  You can see pictures of these trips on the PHOENIX TRIP PAGE.  There are also some really nice pictures here of downtown Phoenix.

We just loved it and decided to buy a house and move out here.  You can see pictures of the Gilbert house on my houses page which you can access from my  main page.

After moving out to the Phoenix area, we discovered that life was not as we envisioned it.  Although we didn't know it at the time, the country had gone into a recession.  We had a terrible time finding work, and all the jobs were in downtown Phoenix or in Scottsdale.  I had researched Gilbert before we moved and in 2000 it would have been a great place to live, but much had changed over the months.  We decided to sell the house, pay off some debts to reduce expenses, and get an apartment in Phoenix where the jobs are.  You can see the beautiful apartment complex on the PHOENIX APARTMENT PAGE.

Before we moved, I had some strange ideas about the Phoenix area.  I thought it was hot, dry, and located in a desert.  While this is true, IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A DESERT.  Some areas here look like Chicago, some look like Wisconsin, some look like Hawaii.  I drove around Gilbert and took some pictures of typical neighborhoods.  Check them out on the GILBERT PAGE.

Arizona is legendary for its sunsets.  We have seen some really nice ones since we've moved here.  Most of the time I don't have a camera in my pocket.  Sometimes I see such wonderful sunsets and feel I should carry my camera with me always, but that probably won't happen.  Anyway, I have captured a few sunsets, you can view them on the ARIZONA SUNSET PAGE.

One of the things I love about this area is there's so much nearby.  Denver, San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon are within driving distance.  One weekend we drove out to San Diego, another weekend the Grand Canyon - it's only about 3 hours away.  You can see pictures of this trip on the GRAND CANYON PAGE.

We don't have blizzards, but we do have dust storms.  You can see some pictures of these on my DUST STORM PAGE.
