There was a great deal of excitement with this WordPress website recently! On May 5th of this year, something bad happened and I started receiving type 500 errors. I contacted my new web hosting company and they told me my .htaccess and wp-config.php files were both empty – zero bytes!

I did not have a backup so how was I going to recover? Fortunately, back when Persson Technologies was in business I wrote a ton of articles to help my customers deal with just these types of emergencies. My goal was to create an entire collection of self-help articles so my customers could save money by fixing their WordPress issues without paying someone lots of money.

Persson Technologies is just a distant memory now but those old articles are still stored in the Way Back Machine. The title of the article is “How To Restore WordPress Without A Backup” and I will include a link here, I don’t know how long this link will still work.

This article was my guide to save this website and it was back up on the weekend of May 26th. What I should do is convert all these old articles to Word files so I can still use them in the future when they disappear from the Way Back Machine.

So far I have been happy with my new web hosting company. Years ago I had GoDaddy but they did not have the features and support I needed. Then I switched to SiteGround and their support was excellent. When I took down the Persson Technologies website and all the other websites that were examples of my work, I had to save money so I went with Verpex. It looks like their regular price is one third the price of SiteGround but I took advantage of a 3-year Black Friday deal.

I have opened a few support tickets with them and they have gotten back to me with an answer in just a few hours!  🙂

It would be great if I could write blog entries here more often.
